An idle air control actuator or idle air control valve (IAC actuator/valve) is a device commonly used in fuel-injected vehicles to control the engine's idling rotational speed (RPM).In carburetted vehicles a similar device known as an idle speed control actuator is used.
Common signs include irregular or unusually high idle speed, the Check Engine Light coming on, and stalling while idling
The idle switch is part of the throttle position sensor that determines when the throttle is fully closed. The value it reads is reported to the engine control module, and when the throttle is closed, the idle air control motor is enabled to ensure that your vehicle will idle smoothly.
