A differential, also known simply as a "diff," is a mechanical gear transmission that was originally invented in ancient China and later adapted to the automotive world by the German engineer Carl Benz. As previously mentioned, its primary purpose is to assist drivers in making turns while driving. It achieves this by differentiating the rotational speeds of the wheels on a given axle while continuously transmitting torque.
