It is blindingly obvious that we cannot go on treating our planet the way we do without reaping catastrophic consequences. This song is an expression of frustration at the selfishness of people in power and our apparent inability as a species to act together for the common good. whether we like it or not, we are still trapped in tribes that compete for resources rather than share them equitably.

The video was shot on a foggy day on the Lancashire coast in England. I like the way the horizon has vanished leaving no border between the earth and sky, that blurring of the boundary between heaven and earth over the sea is a reason why so many hermits and religious communities located themselves on islands and peninsulas of Britain. The sea retreats great distances here over featureless plains of sand. Finding myself stood in desert scene and enveloped by an otherworldly sea fog, I was reminded of August Strindberg's A Dream Play, a scene of which is set in a coastal location called Foulstrand. Strindberg wrote the play when he was suffering from a paranoid psychotic episode; one of the few positives that sometimes results from mental illness is ones muse can become hyperactivly industrious allowing the unbridled imagination to conjouring creations which defy the capabilities of the ordinarily rational.

The barren aspect in conjunction with the intriguing rusting Victorian artefacts and beautiful decaying timbers appeared to me to represent a perfect post apocalyptic metaphor; this is where we are all headed if we do not change our approach and governance and look after the environment. Time waits for no one.
