How do you dispatch and clean a chicken that is ready for cooking?

Self-sufficiency and sustainable living sound good, but sometimes, things aren't relatively so easy.

Today was the time to dispatch & prepare one of our old chickens for cooking. She has had a good life with us, having lots of space to explore, good food & accommodation in return for plenty of tasty free-range eggs.
She did us proud.

The chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a type of domesticated fowl, a subspecies of the red junglefowl. It is one of the most widespread domestic animals, with a population of more than 19 billion as of 2011. There are more chickens worldwide than any other bird or domesticated fowl. Humans primarily keep chickens as a food source (consuming meat and eggs) and, less commonly, as pets. Raised initially for cockfighting or for special ceremonies, chickens were not kept for food until the Hellenistic period (fourth–second centuries BCE)
