Dormant Seeding vs Spring Seeding ~ Not An Easy Decision

When you fail to get grass seed down in the early to middle of Fall the decision to do a dormant seeding project after December always seems to come up. The alternative is to wait until Spring which is notoriously hard or wait a full 9 months until September rolls around again which seems way too long.

I've done some Spring seeding projects and attempted dormant seeding as well. I thought this would be a good time to lay out my thoughts on the differences, pros, and cons of spreading grass seed on a lawn space during the dormant winter season versus the early Spring.

Regardless of when you choose to seed you'll likely do better if you use frost blankets and/or greenhouse plastic depending on the weather you are dealing with and the phase of the seeding project.

Spring seedings will benefit from the application of Tenacity and eventually Hydretain as Spring starts transitioning to summer.

I usually just buy my frost blankets online; we use them in the lawn and in the garden so they are always something we have on hand. If you don't own any they aren't expensive. See this link for a product I've purchased and used before: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
