One of the most common mistakes that independent artists make when releasing a new album is being unprepared and rushing through the process of uploading their music to an aggregator.
When I say aggregator, I'm referring to a digital distribution aggregator like CD Baby, TuneCore, or SpinnUp just to name a few of the more popular ones.
And what they do is they get your music distributed across multiple digital platforms, like Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, etc….
They also handle the paperwork involved.
If some of the tracks on your album are cover songs, they’ll obtain the mechanical license to distribute royalties to the copyright owners.
And they obtain UPC and ISRC codes for you. I'll explain what those are in the video.
Aggregators will also collect royalties on your behalf and make sure that you get paid for streams and sales. So these aggregators are a vital part of the digital distribution process for independent artist like yourself.
Uploading your music to a digital distribution aggregator is a simple and inexpensive process. But it’s a very important one, so you want to make sure that you have every thing that you need ready before go to upload your master.
