Apologies as the footage and quality is not the best but I pulled together what I could at such short notice. This was my first experience learning Pantsula in the flesh right in its birth place, South Africa. The many years of watching whatever videos I could find on YouTube and thus, the constant yearning to learn Pantsula (from its roots) is what brought me to Johannesburg. My trip initially was just to visit Cape Town, where my mother is from, but I did not find what I was looking for there so I took a detour and went to Joburg in the hopes to find more local street dances. I found everything I was looking for and MORE!
This video is a result of an accumulation of just over a week of training and learning Pantsula with Via VYNDAL Pantsula dancers from Alexandra Township.
There has been some hate comments on my previous video so I just want to make it clear that I am well aware that my footwork is not perfect and we are not clean but the point of this video was not to show a polished routine. I just wanted to put something together for these boys so more people get to see and (hopefully) appreciate the beauty of Pantsula dance. It was also created for all of us to look back on :)
I would like to express my overwhelming gratitude to my josi family Caution, Nancy, Opa, Didi, Vuzi, Wanda and Mualusi for taking care of me, giving me a home base and everything else in between! Without you, opportunities like these would not have been so accessible.
