This time we were visited by Adriel Favela, a singer-songwriter whose original corridos confirm him as one of the most important names in the new wave of Mexican music.
We talked about his childhood in the United States, what it was like coming to Mexico, and how he dealt with his first identity and cultural crises. He discussed how he came to understand the reality his family was going through and how his hunger to succeed arose. He told us how difficult it was to gain acceptance in the industry as "El Pocho" (the son of Mexican parents born in the United States) and how he earned the respect of the greats. He described the duality of achieving fame and millions in success but not receiving a single penny, even sleeping in a van on the street at the height of his musical career. He explained how that lifestyle affected his health, leading him to addiction and a life that didn't contribute to his career. Of course, he was going to tell us the most important thing: how he emerged from that period and restarted his career. He shared many quotes, philosophies, and pieces of advice that helped him undergo a metamorphosis and return stronger than ever.
Without a doubt, one of the best episodes we've had on this podcast.
