Mistaken for an Employee
In this video I will tell the three times in my life that I was mistaken for a store employee.
The first time was when I was in middle school. I was not even old enough to work, but I looked older than my age. I was in a sporting goods store and dressed in colorful basketball shorts and a t-shirt. A woman was looking at some clothing and asked me a question then said “Do you work here? No, you don’t work here…” I just shook my head and walked away.
The second time was in Walmart when I was in college. It was a period when I was experimenting with the way that I dressed. I was wearing a dress shirt and tie with a sweater on top. Apparently I looked like a store manager. I was in the light bulb aisle and was just killing time, waiting for my family and pretending to be browsing. A man came up and asked if I worked there. I said no and he walked away.
The third time was while grocery shopping last year. I don’t remember what I was wearing, but it certainly wasn’t anything that resembled a uniform. I was looking at some food near an exit door and two women walked by. One woman asked me if they could leave through that door and the other whispered to her that I didn’t work there.
When these situations happen it can be a little embarrassing, but afterwards it is usually funny.
