How do you disassemble the transformer of a Chinese Edon semiautomatic welder? Why isn't the Edon 205 semiautomatic welder working as expected, and what should you do with it? Budget semiautomatic welder's have a number of drawbacks that ultimately prevent the buyer from using them properly. Clearly, this isn't a GYS, Kemppi, or Lincoln, but a very ordinary Chinese device. This is an Edon semiautomatic welder, but welder's from Centaur, Forte, VITA, and a number of other companies, including some without names, have exactly the same components and configuration. They all share one problem: an improperly designed power transformer. Such a transformer has a steeply falling I-V characteristic and is suitable for arc welding, but not for semiautomatic welding, which requires a higher I-V characteristic.
