In this tutorial, I'll show you the how GSM modem works and what are "AT COMMANDS", their purpose and functionality, and how do we use them to get our desired results.
This tutorial mainly focuses on GSM modes "PDU" (and a brief explanation on Text mode)
PDU is the default "language" of GSM modems (including your mobile phone) which uses GSM7 encoding scheme to pack information to be sent and received by GSM equipment. This is the language all modems communicate to each other.
PDU mode's main advantage is its LONG SMS capability.
Unlike Text mode, PDU mode supports sending more than 160 characters, breaking the limit the Text mode has! Long SMS is divided into 160 characters called "chunks". Each of these chunks has information attached to them that tells the receiver and the SMSC (Short Message Service Center) how the message will be arranged and wether the SMS is a multipart/long or single SMS.
