For Tye, collecting art is his pleasure in life, "art feeds my spiritual senses" he adds. Tye's extensive collecting ranging from East to West and Modern to Contemporary underlines this burning pleasure.
Art is found in every corner of Tye's three-storey house -- the storeroom, stairways, attic and even his son's room. His collection includes some of today's greatest artists - Damien Hirst, MF Hussein, Peter Liew and Lim Cheng Hoe. At the same time, he is also an ardent supporter of Singapore's emerging talents like Hilmi Johandi, Ruben Phang and Zak Yeo.
From his extensive collection, one can hardly tell that he started collecting just three years ago when he began collecting paintings with bridges. A fondness for bridges grew as he was previously a professional headhunter- hence playing a decisive 'bridging' role.
In his interview, he describes 'glocal' artists (a term describing artists holding both a globalized and localized perspective) as being the most-sought after in today's art world. New media art is also under his radar as well.
