Sunday school in Jelgava
In the late 1990s, the St. Simeon and St. Anne's Cathedral, handed over to the state, was in dire straits. The ruins were horrifying. The bell tower was completely gone. Ominous gaps gaped through the black ribs of the domes.
Many doubted whether the cathedral could be restored.
His Eminence, Bishop Alexander (Kudryashov), decided: "With God's help, the cathedral must be restored." Almost 20 years have passed since then. The cathedral is a jewel and a jewel of the city. A Sunday school operates at the church. It is the only Sunday school in Latvia where students are taught to play the bells.
