Travis picking is a wonderful fingerpicking pattern on guitar. Travis picking is name after guitar virtuoso Merle Travis and is very common in country and fold music. BUT, you can here it in popular music as well. Think of a song like Dust in the Wind and you will surely hear Travis picking throughout the song. While the song Landslide doesn't use Travis picking, I've often used Travis picking live when I play the song.
Travis picking features an alternating bass line with the other fingers playing the treble notes in the between.
