Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye Terrier who became famous in 19th-century Edinburgh for his unwavering loyalty to his owner. The most popular tale tells us that Bobby belonged to John Gray, a night watchman for the Edinburgh City Police. When John Gray died in 1858, he was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard, a cemetery near Edinburgh. Legend has it that Bobby then spent the next 14 years guarding his master's grave until his own death in 1872.
