Two or three men have been killed
In accidents at the Big Four Bridge
Over Big Creek and now the bridge
Is alleged to be haunted.
Reputable men say
That sounds as of a great weight falling into the water underneath is sometimes heard,
But the water remains perfectly calm
With no sign of having been disturbed.

Mama. Crying Baby in her arm.
Mama. Rushing desperately to ways of harm.
Baby. Sick and crying, needing doctor's care.
Mama. Trying hard to get Baby there.
Mama. Shortcut down the railroad track.
Mama and Baby. The air was cold, the night was black.
Mama. Crossing the bridge over White Lick Creek.
Baby. Kicking and crying, tears running down her little cheek.
Mama. Hears the train is coming, Bridge is rumbling, sounds like a screaming man.
Mama. Tries to hold on to Baby, just as tight as she can.
Mama. Feels a ghostly chill, deep down to her bones.
Baby. Squirming and writhing as she weeps and moans.
Mama. Accidentally trips on a cross tie.
Baby. Slips from Mama's arms to the cold creek alive.
Mama. Crying for Baby, in the pale moonlight.
Sad Mama. Falls from The Bridge, where they both perish that night.

Me and Mindy rush over railroad tracks that cross Belmont Avenue
Slow train south, fast train north, we are caught between the two
Her wild streak gets ahold of her as we run past Link-Belt Chain
We flung ourselves on the last freight car of that rumbling westbound train
We jumped off in Avon town at Big Four Railroad Yard
We warmed our hands with Hobo Gus, the burning barrel is rusty and hard
Gus told us, for five whole bucks, he would buy us Boone's Farm Wine
At the Haunted Bridge with some other kids, we had a real good time.
After dark, we drank too much, passed out in the catacombs
Startled awake by an eastbound train, to find we were all alone
Heard a man scream and a baby cry, we ran so hard and fast
Laughing and scared, at the same time, we hitchhiked home, at last
If you drive by The Haunted Bridge, you'd better "honk your horn", they say
Or you'll hear their screams, you know what I mean. The bridge is haunted to this day.
If you drive by The Haunted Bridge, you'd better "blow your horn", loud and long
Nobody knows if there's real ghosts there, but the legends do live on.
