To gift a car in California fill out a bill of sale and complete the title transfer application. Though a bill of sale isn’t mandatory when you’re gifting a car, you’ll want to fill one out so you have your official agreement in writing. That way, you’ll avoid any potential disagreements or even legal questions down the road.
In California, if you’re transferring the car between family members, fill out a Statement of Facts form to get a tax exemption on the transaction.
Finally, go to the DMV within 10 days of gifting the vehicle with all the necessary paperwork, and money for fees. Take care of the car’s registration at this time.
