The Kremlin’s Influence Quarterly – Report Launch March 25
On Thursday, March 25, 2021 (11 am EST/ 16:00 CEST/ 17:00 EEST), Free Russia Foundation launches the third issue of the Kremlin’s Influence quarterly journal.
The Kremlin’s Influence Quarterly is an online publication analyzing the Kremlin’s malign activities in Europe aimed at undermining European values and democratic institutions. The quarterly will feature case studies collected by the FRF team and theoretical methodologies developed by its scholars.
In this presentation, Răzvan-Ovidiu Ceuca will discuss various instruments that Putin’s Russia uses to exert malign influence in Romania. Anton Shekhovtsov will analyze the reasons and agendas behind the attacks of the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov on France and President Emmanuel Macron in autumn 2020. Grigorij Mesežnikov will map the sociocultural and political factors of Russia’s influence in Slovakia, disclosing the ecosystem of local actors that constitute the pro-Kremlin’s lobby, describing their background and motivation. Maria Snegovaya will present her article on disinformation, Euroscepticism and pro-Russian parties in Eastern Europe published as a special edition of The Kremlin’s Influence Quarterly project.
BIOS:
Anton Shekhovtsov is a Senior Fellow at the Free Russia Foundation (US), external lecturer at the University of Vienna (Austria), and expert at the European Platform for Democratic Elections (Germany).
Maria Snegovaya is a postdoctoral Fellow at Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University), Visiting Fellow at George Washington University.
Grigorij Mesežnikov is a political scientist, president of the Institute for Public Affairs (Slovakia). He has published expert studies on party systems’ development and political aspects of transformation in post-communist societies, illiberal and authoritarian tendencies, populism, radicalism and nationalism in various monographs, collections and scholarly journals in Slovakia and other countries. He has edited and authored dozens of books, including the Global Reports on Slovakia (1995–2011).
Razvan-Ovidiu Ceuca is a PhD Candidate in International Relations at the Department of International Studies and Contemporary History of the “Babes-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania; an expert specializing in analyzing and countering hybrid threats for Intel4Patriam; a collaborator of Informational Warfare and Strategic Communication Laboratory (LARICS).
