The universe is vast, containing over 100 billion galaxies, each with billions of stars. Just in our Milky Way, there are billions of Earth-like planets. With such a colossal expanse, the likelihood of intelligent life existing seems high. However, despite this, we haven't encountered any extraterrestrial civilizations yet. One popular theory, the great filter hypothesis, suggests that there is a barrier or filter preventing the spread of intelligent life. This barrier might lie in the difficult transition from single-celled organisms to complex intelligence. Meeting all the necessary criteria for life formation could be incredibly rare. Alternatively, advanced civilizations may self-destruct or face catastrophic events. Lastly, there could be a highly advanced alien civilization monitoring and eliminating potential threats from emerging civilizations.
