Is an offshore trust the same thing as an asset protection trust?
Not necessarily. An asset protection trust is a form of offshore trust, but is specifically designed for one purpose and one purpose in mind, and that's to hold assets on behalf of the beneficiaries in case of a future financial calamity, those assets in that trust are protected. Offshore trusts however can be a variety of different uses that are not necessarily associated with asset protection planning.
