George Maniakes: Hero, Giant and Usurper
George Maniakes was a soldier and governor during the the early eleventh century. He defeated an Arab attack on the city of Teluch, captured the city of Edessa, conquered Sicily, restored southern Italy after a Norman invasion and nearly won the throne.
