Hey everyone, I hope you are all keeping well. In this video I show you how to tune Omnisphere to your system. If you are experiencing odd glitches in the sounds or just want to assign a different controller to your mod-wheel, this video is for you.
I take you through what all the settings in the often overlooked system page do. This will help you iron out any issues you may experience to the sound. For example, if your system is low on memory you can restrict how much Omnisphere will use. You can also assign a button or slider to control aftertouch providing it transmits MIDI CC messages.
The best way to see if you need to limit your memory usage is to watch the memory used bar as you load a patch. If you are getting beyond 50% for a fairly simple patch, you may want to look at set a memory usage limit.
Further on in the system settings you can decide how much memory is devoted to pre-loading the samples. The higher the setting the less likely you will have glitches within the sound. However, turning it up will increase memory usage that in turns increases loading times for the patch. So it is a case of striking a balance. Spectrasonics suggest a setting of 60,000 for this parameter.
When it comes to the stream brake setting you can balance between streaming and other operations. Be careful with this one, I have yet to find a need in moving this away from the default setting of 0.1.
The next section with the settings is pitch options. This allows you to set the global tuning for the whole of Omnisphere or to a particular multi. If set to multi, you can save a unique tuning that will only load with that multi. How cool is that?
The miscellaneous section of the settings area holds a veritable selection of parameters that you can use to make the Omnisphere interface react in different ways. For example, you can sync the tabs for each layer. If you are in layer A and have the filter zoom page open but then move to layer B, it will default to the filter zoom page. This can be handy when you are patch designing.
I hope you find this video useful, and it helps you to smoother sounds within Omnisphere.
