OBS For Linux Doesn't Work!

I'll spare you the whole "Linux is a death-by-a-thousand-cuts-experience" rant.

I want to move away from Windows XP on the stream encoder. The problem is, the capture card isn't supported under anything later than XP. I can get it to work marginally under Vista, but it won't work under 7.
I've also wanted to try OpenBroadcaster Software for a long time. It requires Windows 7 or later. The capture card is 100% non-functional in Windows 7, or at least in the test install I did.

Lubuntu Linux 15.04 shows the capture card in the hardware roster. Whether it works or not is a different story, but I tried to install OBS on there, using the "stable" build. It bombed, naturally.

I then tried it in Ubuntu 15.04 in a VM, thinking maybe it doesn't work because this wasn't mainline Ubuntu. It, too, bombed out in a similar way. Both the main and unstable builds do exactly the same thing.

Suffice it to say, this is exactly the reason I will probably never use Linux for anything other than an experimental web-browsing box.
