Shamrock/four-leaf clover piping instructions:
For this easy shamrock piping tutorial I'm using a green American buttercream and a number 150 tip. Using a small dab of buttercream attach a square of parchment to a flower nail. With the long end of the tip at the center, just barely touching the parchment paper begin turning your flower nail while applying pressure. Pull out towards the outer edge of the piping nail then dip down, pull back out and then pull back to your starting point releasing pressure and sharply pulling away. This should create a heart shaped leaf segment. We're going to need to form four of these heart segments to create our shamrock. (If creating a three leaf clover, only do three segments!)
For the stem hold your tip about 1mm above the parchment, in the center of the shamrock. Apply a small amount of pressure to add a stem. If you are transferring a lot of these buttercream shamrock cake decorations I recommend piping the stems directly onto the cake/cupcakes as they are fragile and sometimes break in the transferring process.
Place your finished shamrocks in the fridge for about 10 minutes and then you can transfer them to your St Patrick's day cake or cupcakes! Don't forget to subscribe for more tutorials. If you have any questions, let me know down below!
Buttercream Recipe: (Video: • Easy American buttercream recipe - pe... )
Ingredients
1/2 Cup butter softened to room temperature 113g
2 Cups powdered sugar 200g
1 Teaspoon vanilla extract 4g
1-2 Tablespoons milk 15-30g
Directions:
In a large bowl if using a hand mixer or in the bowl of your stand mixer cream butter on medium low speed for 2-3 minutes or until fluffy and pale in colour. Add 1/2 of the powdered sugar and mix for 2 minutes. Add remaining powdered sugar and mix for another 2 minutes. Your buttercream should be fluffy, pale and thick at this point. Add vanilla and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix well. If the buttercream is still too thick/stiff add another tablespoon of milk and continue mixing. You will want a medium consistency buttercream to pipe your flowers with! Add food colouring. For these buttercream shamrocks I used equal parts Wilton moss green gel food colouring and Wilton leaf green gel food colouring.
