YouTube Studio Timelapse
I figured it would be neat to share some of my filming process with all of you. Once the product comes in I do market research on it and get detailed info direct from the manufacturer. I then formulate a rough outline on what I want to show my audience. After that I jot some technical notes on the whiteboard so I don't mix up small details and then setup the studio for filming.
I try and rearrange the wall each video as an ode to The Simpson's who sit differently on their couch at the intro to each episode. Once the background is set, I setup my lighting, camera, tripod, wireless lapel, and do a systems check with audio and focus points before starting on the rundown. After I'm done addressing the audience I get all the B-Roll needed for the video and then break the room back down.
At this point I'll go edit the studio scenes to make sure I covered all the bases and to ensure I don't have to re-shoot B-Roll, etc. Then I head to the range the following day and film the live fire scenes.
Once I'm done filming at the range I head back to edit those scenes into the work I already have done from the studio, export, upload and schedule for YouTube and Full30.
In all it takes about a 2-3 day span with 2hrs in the studio, 1hr to edit the studio scenes, 3 hours to drive to and film at range location, and then another 2 to edit and wrap things up. So about a total of 8hrs of hands on time to produce a detailed video review with an average run time of 15-25 minutes depending on the product.
After it's uploaded I'll spend a couple hours conversing with Patrons on Patreon and then share on my Facebook business page, Instagram teasers, photos, etc. As a total, each product I review takes about a span of a week and 10+ hours of my time to produce a review for, disseminate, and answer questions across social media.
