Super Resolution in Adobe Camera Raw: Does the AI really increase resolution?
Since Adobe Camera Raw 13.2, artificial intelligence Adobe Sensei was introduced for Super Resolution function (both in Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Lightroom). It was trained on millions of images and it is supposed to increase resolution 4 times (twice for each dimension). In our test today, we will compare the results using seven different images.
Each image will be compared several times. The first one is at enlarged resolution (usually 80-104 MPx) comparing the standard method to increase resolution and Super Resolution at 100 %. The second one is the same with 200% magnification in order to see the differences better. The third test shows the image in original resolution (20-26 MPx) compared with the image created by enlarging using the Super Resolution and then scaled back to the original amount of megapixels. It will be viewed at 100 %. The fourth test will show the same at 200% magnification.
