Why do seals constantly slap their bellies? It's actually a way to demonstrate their impressive physique and dominance. Because of their shy nature and short flippers, they don't need to be muscular, as they don't fight. Therefore, by gaining weight, seals not only protect themselves from the cold but also move more easily thanks to their enlarged bellies. Furthermore, their high body fat allows them to swim easily and, when necessary, to deflate and re-absorb air. However, this plumpness causes them to be pushed from one wall to another when sleeping. Their thick necks, fused with their bodies, protect them from impacts, but for comfortable sleep, they need to be wedged between two rocks. So, the larger the belly, the louder the sound—this belly signifies the seal's majesty.
