The short version of a video of a robot built by the Loveland Robotics Class & Club based off of the Tilted Twister. The robot solves a Rubik's Cube in approximately 6 minutes.....not bad for a robot.
The robot begins by resetting the positions of its motors and then asking for a Rubik's Cube. Once the rubik's cube is placed on the platform, the robot begins to determine the colors on each block on every side. It then uses an algorithm to find three possible solutions to the Rubik's cube. The robot chooses the solution with the least number of moves and begins to solve the Rubik's cube. Once the rubik's cube has been solved, the program ends and the user is left with a solved rubik's cube.
Small modifications were made to the design and programming, nothing major however. The robot was built using an NXT 1.0 set of parts and a color sensor. The build modifications were to help create a smoother move of the arm, and to prevent the cube from getting stuck.
