This video is based on an essay I wrote a few years ago about surviving 50 degrees below zero during the winter at my cabin in Alaska’s Copper Basin. 50 degrees below zero, is in many ways a terrifying experience for Alaskans. Many people have tragically frozen to death during Alaska winter. Living in Alaska, and life in Alaska can be full of adventure, yet tragedy also occurs.
The videos to support this narrative were shot at all different temperatures, the lowest being 30 below. I did not want to ruin my camera gear by trying to film during 50 below. I hope you enjoy this video, and I hope you sense my love and reverence for the Alaskan wilderness. Alaska is terrifying and benevolent, sometimes at the same time. It’s a great honor to live my dream, in a little Alaska cabin tucked far away from the human race.
