The C6 ZR1 Corvette was developed under the project name of Blue Devil. Chevrolet's goal was to develop an American Supercar that trumps exotics that cost two, three, or four times as much and does so with exceptional drivability. Powered by an all-new LS9 V8, the new 2009 ZR1 was the fastest and most powerful car General Motors had ever produced and managed to make its way onto multiple quickest and fastest car lists while also being the first factory Corvette over 200 miles per hour.

The ZR1 features an exclusive exterior with an easily identifiable raised, carbon fiber hood with a clear polycarbonate window to see the top of the engine and LS9 Supercharged badging, which features visible carbon fiber underneath. Visible carbon fiber can be found on the roof, roof bow, rocker molding, and front splitter with a UV-resistant clear coat. The ZR1 also features carbon fiber widened front fenders with dual lower ports and a body-color rear spoiler incorporating a center high-mounted stop lamp, specific to the ZR1.
The two-tone red and black interior uses a traditional Corvette dual cockpit set up with high-quality materials and builds on the other Corvettes with ZR-1 sill plates, headrest embroidery, ZR1 specific gauge cluster with a 220 mph speedometer, an added boost gauge, and head-up display. Standard features include lightweight seats and lightweight content similar to the Z06.
Underneath the ZR1 features an aluminum-intensive chassis with specially tuned fully independent suspension using upper and lower aluminum control arms along with ZR1 specific suspension tuning and Magnetic Selective Ride control for a compliant ride and instantaneous adjustment for cornering and over 1g of lateral grip. Stopping power comes courtesy of massive Brembo Carbon Ceramic cross-drilled brake rotors measuring 15.5 inches up front with 6-piston calipers and 15 inches in the rear with 4-piston calipers which were some of the largest carbon ceramic rotors found on any vehicle at the time, exotics included. In front of the brakes are the optional 20-spoke aluminum chrome wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires developed specifically for the ZR1 with 285/30/19s in front and 335/25/20 in the rear for improved mechanical grip.
Power comes from a hand-assembled LS9 6.2 liter V8 equipped with a roots-style supercharger to produce 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque thanks to heavy-duty and lightweight reciprocating components delivering power to 6,600 rpm. The Supercharged V8 is paired with a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual transmission utilizing dual-disc clutch technology with a limited-slip differential and a stronger rear axle for sending power to the rear wheels.
Coming in at 3,324 pounds, the C6 ZR1 achieves 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds, a ¼ mile in 11.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 205 miles per hour with period reviews comparing the car to a tomahawk missile or navy catapult.
The ZR1 has an EPA-rated fuel economy of 14mpg city, 20 mpg highway and 16mpg combined. Using the combined number with the 18-gallon fuel tank, the ZR1 has an estimated range of 288 miles.
