A seminary for training primary school teachers operated in Waldau (as the village of Nizovye was formerly called) since 1870. After the Great Patriotic War, from October 1947, the building housed the secondary vocational school No. 20, later an agricultural college and technical school, where they trained tractor drivers and other agricultural workers. Interestingly, the 4th floor used to house the Waldau History Museum. Then the museum's exposition moved to the wing of the Waldau castle.

The old building has been empty for about 10 years. But officially the college is not closed and is even more or less guarded, but there have been no students in it for a long time. The building damaged by fire is not a cultural heritage site, although it has all the signs of it. I visited there this summer and was delighted by the abundance of preserved historical details that still preserve the spirit of Waldau's time.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the slate roof on the wooden sheathing burned down as a result of the fire. What can I say, for such a large and abandoned building this is probably the end. I would not want the seminary to repeat the fate of the school in Vysokoye, where a strong pre-war building was dismantled for bricks. After all, I really want to believe in the best.
