GAZ-53 is a legendary truck of the USSR that has outlived its time
This is versatility, Soviet style. GAZ-53 is the most popular and best truck in the USSR. It was produced for 33 years with minor changes, and during this time it became a true symbol of the Soviet auto industry.
Firstly, it was relatively small compared to other Soviet trucks. The 120 horsepower engine was considered reliable and allowed it to accelerate to 85 kilometers per hour. The design was simple, even primitive - there was practically nothing to break.
The load capacity of 4 tons was enough for most Soviet enterprises.
And the main reason for its success was the price. It cost 3,100 Soviet rubles. For comparison, "cool" trucks cost two and a half times more. Therefore, GAZs were bought by everyone: small municipal enterprises, collective farms and factories. This platform became a real "base for all occasions":
The KAVZ-685 bus transported people from remote villages to cities, there were fire trucks, garbage trucks, tankers, even small cranes and mobile workshops.
