THE PROPHET WARNED US: The evil eye is the truth!
A social network can serve as a real axe that will eventually cut off all connections in relationships if they are not properly protected. What is happening? Since ancient times, in order to become famous, it was necessary to do something significant for humanity. Right? However, today, in order to become famous, this has become unnecessary. All you need is internet access, maybe a selfie stick with a camera, and you can already become a celebrity. And guess what? The less clothes you have on, the more likes you get. The more radical and out-of-the-ordinary actions we perform, the more attention we get, and the more attention, the higher the dopamine level, that is, the greater the feeling of pleasure, and the higher this feeling, the stronger the desire to perform even more such actions. Over time, you and I no longer notice the attention of one person, since our brain has already been reprogrammed to be content and strive to get the attention of many people.
"Why do I only have 30 likes when I used to have 300? Why only 3,000 likes when I used to have 300,000?" And then, when your poor wife or husband just wants to sit and chat with you, you can't give them the attention they need, you can't sit still and you constantly reach for your smartphone to check who commented on what and where they liked it.
If you, brothers and sisters, are not trying to use the social network for some meaningful purpose, such as saving people from the fire of Hell and guiding them to the heavenly abode, or exalting Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, which, as I am sure, many of you do not pay due attention to, then it is better to delete it altogether. If it interferes with your relationship, just delete it and thereby preserve your “strict covenant”. Brothers and sisters, when we talk about the revival of the concept of mawaddah, (that is, mutual love), we may well not advertise our happy marriage. Brothers and sisters, stop telling everyone about your wonderful marital relationship. It is not at all necessary to show off your family photos to the whole world. And if your husband, dear sisters, gave you a huge bouquet of flowers, it is not at all necessary to post it on Instagram and tell everyone that your beloved husband just gave you flowers. Don't tell me that out of 500 or 5,000 friends who follow you, there aren't any who aren't married yet? And that there aren't any who envy your status? Or are you telling me that they are all married, but none of them have the difficult relationship of being a husband or wife? And then they see the carefully selected photo you posted and think to themselves, "What about me?" Aren't you afraid that they might put the evil eye on you, because the evil eye does exist? We're not trying to cause paranoia, brothers and sisters, but I have no doubt that many unexpected rifts in relationships that often can't be explained have been caused by the evil eye. Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad al-Hakim in Mustadaraq that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If any of you sees something pleasant and enjoyable, let him make du’a with blessings (or something similar), for the evil eye is true.” The evil eye is true!
Also, Abu Nu’aym narrated in his Ihya with a good chain of narrators, as mentioned by Nasruddin al-Albani, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The evil eye can bring a camel to the cauldron, and it can bring a man to the grave.” La ilaha illa Allah! Even if the evil eye can bring camels to the cauldron, so that their meat can be cooked for dinner. The evil eye can even lead to death of a person, and what's more, the Prophet ﷺ says in one terrible hadith: "The cause of death of most of my community, after the predestination of Allah, will be death from the evil eye."
