Hello, friends! Today, we'll be focusing on two legendary fighters: the Su-35 and the MiG-29. Both aircraft originated in the USSR, both saw combat, and both are still in service, yet they are very different. While the MiG-29 is a compact and versatile workhorse, the Su-35 is a true heavyweight with a wealth of modern technology. But let's take a look at the fundamental differences between them.

History and Concept

Let's start with the MiG-29, a frontline fighter developed in the late 1970s. Its mission is to provide air cover for troops, intercept enemy aircraft, and engage in close combat. It's lightweight, maneuverable, and can take off from poor airfields and even unpaved runways. NATO nicknamed it the "Fulcrum"—the lever—because it truly was an important element of Soviet aviation.

The Su-35, however, is a highly modernized version of the Su-27, which appeared much later. It's not just a fighter, but a multirole aircraft capable of dogfighting, ground attack, and reconnaissance. It's larger, heavier, more powerful, and packed with electronics. Roughly speaking, if the MiG-29 is a nimble boxer, the Su-35 is a heavyweight with the intelligence of a sniper.
