Lyrics:
[INTRO — NICKI]
(Spoken — theatrical whisper, slight smirk energy, slow and deliberate)
"You know what's funny…
they keep writing the script…
but somehow…
I'm always the one they're writing ABOUT."
(soft laugh)
"Mm."
[HOOK — ICE SPICE]
(Delivered flat, cold, breathy — repetitive and hypnotic. Melody minimal, single rising note that drops)
I'm the main character, yeah, I'm the plot
Everything revolve around me, ready or not
I'm the main character, they just background noise
Watch how I move, yeah, I do it with poise…
(slight exhale ad-lib — "mhm")
I'm the main character
Main character…
[VERSE 1 — NICKI MINAJ]
(Rapid triplet flow opening, then sudden half-time drop on key lines for devastation. Sharp consonant delivery. Aggressive but controlled.)
Stepped on the scene and I rewrote the genre!!
Every bar I spit become somebody's honor
They study my cadence like it's a diploma
Curriculum Nicki — sophomore to coma, uh
I been the thesis, they been the footnotes
I been the deep end, they been the rowboats
They quote my verses at their own shows…?!
Baby that's flattery wrapped up in your own woes
(ad-lib: "yeah yeah, keep goin'")
Pink on everything, the throne never vacant
Every new "queen" they crown get impatient
'Cause when the dust settle and the real get weighted…
My name still ringin' — theirs get antiquated!!
I survived the drama, I survived the courtrooms
Survived the narratives they built in empty boardrooms
Still pulled up lookin' like a magazine cover
Papa Bear watching — I don't do this for the others!!!
(sharp breath ad-lib)
I do it for legacy, I do it for the craft
I do it 'cause every time they count me out I laugh…
(whispered:) "heh"
You thought the story ended? Nah…
I'm the author AND the aftermath
[HOOK — ICE SPICE]
(slightly warmer second run, barely — mostly identical, that's the power)
I'm the main character, yeah, I'm the plot
Everything revolve around me, ready or not
I'm the main character, they just background noise
Watch how I move, yeah, I do it with poise…
(ad-lib under last line — soft "uh")
I'm the main character
Main character…
[VERSE 2 — ICE SPICE]
(Beat slightly stripped — kick and hi-hat forward, bass present but bass pulled slightly back. Her voice MORE forward in the mix. Slow, deliberate, each word lands like a drop of cold water.)
Bronx baby, I don't chase, I attract…
