Ya know, it’s easy to put off the things you need to do for yourself. After all, there’s always tomorrow, am I right? Need to start going to the gym? Well, it’ll be there tomorrow! Need to start paying off debt? Well, it’ll take years to pay off. What’s one more month? Need to update your resume? Well, my job isn’t that bad. Need to start learning that new skill? What’s the point? The industry is saturated.

Here’s the thing: There’s always a million reasons not to do something! But too often, we find ourselves sitting around waiting for the “right time” or waiting for someone else to come in and give us the permission, the validation, or the motivation to start making progress on our goals.

The thing you need to know is that you’re never going to wake up one day and feel like doing the hard work. In fact, more often than not, it’s going to require you to drag your ass to the gym, make sacrifices to pay off debts, get outside your comfort zone to update your resume and apply for new jobs, make time to learn that new skill, or do anything else that that’s not fun in order to achieve your goals.

It’s kinda like instructional design. We all know that just because our learners know things, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to do things. Well, the same is true for you and the actions you need to take to make your goals happen—knowing them and acting on them are two separate things.

You’re always going to find a reason why now isn’t the right time. Instead, you need to have urgency with the goals you want to accomplish. Why is that? Because the clock is ticking! And the thing you need to understand is that your goals and dreams die between the little bit of space that exists between knowing the action you need to take and actually taking them!
