Like most my travel films, they sit on a hard drive for months.

Since filming this, so much in my life has changed.. and for the better.

I really took the necessary time to process all the change. I sat with my emotions and understood how it was important to let them process naturally by feeling them fully.

During that time, I didn’t want to edit any personal videos, because I didn’t feel like I could express myself in the way I wanted to if my baseline wasn’t there.

It simply wasn’t priority, and I did of course get frustrated with the backlog but putting yourself first always has to be the priority.

Thankfully I can say, my spark for life has been back the past couple of months, all the cylinders are firing again and I’m flying through projects and life is balanced.

Balance was my intention last year, it came albeit a small bit delayed, but that sort of fits with who I am anyway.

For this edit, I had it locked, I loved the rhythm, but it needed something more,

because the edit was “locked”, it was difficult to know how to progress it.

and I didn’t want to un-do my edits.

It’s a lot easier to edit with all your assets from the get go.

Then I realized, the words were already there, I had random bits of personal writing that I wrote within my notes app over the last few years. So most of all, I’m happy to something with those words finally.

In a way, it’s like this film was being made slowly over time and it all came together when the time was right.. and in a way, I’m grateful that it took it’s time.

And once the words were recorded, it actually made me embrace the edit more and I did a whole re-cut! Something I was reluctant to do initially as I didn’t want to upset my original pacing.

That’s the beauty of editing, there is no point to not go for it, the raw material is there and you can always start again. kind of like with myself really.
