Don't Fall Into the Prototype Trap
Some inventors fall into the trap of working on their prototypes for too long and spend too much money. Sometimes, that effort is worth it. More often than not though, a beautiful prototype is just — a beautiful prototype. Industrial designers and engineers typically fall into this trap, because they're more than capable of making great prototypes. Your time is a limited resource. Use it wisely!
In the long run, focusing on contacting companies will be far more fruitful. Andrew isn't saying, "Never make a prototype." He's saying: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Other inventors give up because they think they need a perfect prototype. In reality, a rendering might get the job done. There are no hard and fast rules about when a prototype is and isn't needed.
