Born December 5, 1970, in Ussuriysk. His mother was a military engineer, and Dyoma's brother was killed while serving a prison sentence. He attended vocational school, where he excelled and competed in math competitions. He met young men who had served time in a juvenile detention center, and was later expelled for beating fellow students and smoking marijuana. After his expulsion, he began extorting stipends from vocational school students and committing robberies. For this, he first served time at 18 in an Irkutsk prison colony, which became his "university—the 'social science department,' the 'survival course.'" He has four previous convictions, serving two stints in correctional facilities (for robbery and murder). He claims to have been in prison for "robbery, drugs, and grievous bodily harm resulting in death." He was also involved in car scams. He served his most recent sentence for an armed brawl at the central market in Ussuriysk. There were also four attempts on his life. He has no children.
