Chronicle of a Passion is the film adaptation of an epistolatory novel by Herman Teirlinck (1879-1967). This romantic family chronicle is set against the background of two different forms of society: the traditional and ordered lives of the Flemish landed gentry and the artificial world of Parisien decadence. This naturalistic melodrama lasts overt two hours and follows the internal conflict of widower Renier Joskin de Lamarche who has fallen in love with Rolande. His passion for the Parisienne leads eventually to his downfall.
