On April 12, 2014, state hunting inspectors of Mordovia detained poachers in the Zubovo-Polyansky District.

Participating in the illegal hunt were, among others, Yevgeny Golovanov, Deputy Head of the Zubovo-Polyansky District Administration, as well as heads of republican enterprises and the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The poachers illegally killed four mallard ducks (two females and two males) and one beaver. The latter is classified as a rare species and is included in the local Red Book in accordance with a decree of the Government of Mordovia.

State hunting inspectors have filed charges against the violators for "Hunting in Violation of Established Time Limits." Criminal proceedings are also being considered. The damages for the killing of the four ducks amount to 4,800 rubles, and for the beaver, 15,000 rubles.
