Saudi Arabia's Shadow King: Mohammed bin Salman
In Saudi Arabia, the young Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman holds all the reins. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him "the most powerful figure of the millennial generation." World leaders are queuing at his door for oil. And the holiest site for Muslims is also in his country. Prince Salman is a far cry from the rigid religious leaders we're accustomed to in the Saudi Kingdom. He's determined to change Saudi Arabia's image. The rights he's granted to women are a revolutionary milestone in Saudi Arabia's history.
The Kingdom also has a project called Vision 2030 to reduce its dependence on oil. In short, it's a plan to diversify the Kingdom's economy and develop sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and tourism. He's trying to attract foreign investors to the country to realize this vision. The way to achieve this is to de-risk the region and ensure peace. This is why he remains silent on Israel's occupation of Palestine.
