In this video, we'll tell you how to program a Range Rover key, produced between 2002 and 2009, specifically up to the 2010 model year. A key can become unlinked for several reasons. This could be due to a faulty battery in the key itself, or because you repeatedly pressed the door lock and unlock buttons on the key while the Range Rover is out of reach.
Unpairing a key means it loses its radio signal and you can't arm or disarm it. This means the central locking system won't unlock or lock using the buttons on the key, and the car won't disarm, but it will start normally.
If you find yourself in this situation, unlock your Range Rover using the driver's door lock cylinder. Don't panic, the alarm will sound. After you insert the key into the ignition, the alarm will stop, and you can begin pairing the key yourself.
To program a Range Rover key, insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key to the first position (without turning on the ignition), turn it back, and then remove the key. Immediately hold down the central locking button and, without releasing it, press the locking button three times. Then press the locking button a fourth time and release both buttons simultaneously. If programming is successful, you will hear the central locking sound. This will indicate that the Range Rover key has been successfully programmed.
Don't be discouraged if programming doesn't work the first time. This happens. Repeat the procedure again!
Don't be confused with programming the radio channel to control the central locking system. If you need to program the key as a new one so it can start the engine, only original diagnostic equipment will help.
