In this video, we’re on-site at a trailer park for a vending machine lockout service call. The customer lost the key to their high security vending machine lock, so we had to open the machine, remove the old lock, and install a fresh replacement lock so they could get back inside and keep the machine stocked.
This is one of those vending machine repair jobs that looks simple until you actually have to do it. High security vending locks are designed to be difficult to break into, which is great when you have the key — but not so great when the key is lost.
We walk through the process of drilling into the lock, using the right drill bits, avoiding broken bits, using a slide hammer, pulling the lock, removing the handle, forcing the lock nipple down, and getting the machine open without destroying more parts than necessary.
Once the old lock was removed, we installed a new generic 1452 vending machine lock, gave the customer a working key, and got the machine back in business.
If you own vending machines, this is a reminder: keep track of your keys, make duplicates, and store them somewhere safe. Losing a vending machine key can quickly turn into a $150–$200+ service call, especially if the lock has to be drilled, pulled, cut, or replaced.
