Joey has scored the highly coveted position of Shelter Director's Afternoon Companion. He looks like he is adjusting to his new role with unabashed ease! Kate has this to say of Joey:
"Lovely dog! Plays beautifully with other big female dogs (haven't tried male dogs). He's not good with cats or "Shifty" (another small office dog who belongs to a staff member). Joey is housebroken in my office. He can be mouthy but is easily corrected. He is really lovely with people and kids!"
--------
We haven't seen too many dogs who look like Joey Blue Eyes. We judge him to be a mix of a pit and a Catahoula leopard, and with this unique blend he's not going to be confused with anyone else. Have you ever seen a dog with these good looks?
Joey is a big, friendly, playful lug of a dog, but he has had a rough start to life. He has been suffering from a bad case of mange, although he has almost completely recovered. He has also been bouncing around the shelter system, and as a result he has not received the level of consistency that every young dog requires. However, we are confident that Joey's next stop will be in his permanent home.
Volunteers have started taking Joey to BAD RAP training classes where he is learning his basic commands and is also gaining valuable socialization that will help him improve his behavior around other dogs. We have found him to be a dog with a moderate energy level, and very curious about the world around him. He is a resilient, strong-willed dog who responds to firm guidance. If you can provide the guidance that has been missing from Joey's life, he will no doubt love you in return!

Adoption Criteria (Non Bully Breeds):
In order to qualify as an adopter, you must bring proof of home ownership or your rental contract showing you are allowed to have pets before the adoption can be completed. If you're coming to adopt a new family or household pet, please bring your family members or other members of the household with you to the shelter -- including any other dogs in the family. We want to make sure your new dog is a good fit for both 2-leggers and 4-leggers alike.
Additional Adoption Criteria (Bully Breeds):
If you're applying to adopt a bully breed, in addition to the above, your rental contract must specifically state you are allowed to have a bully breed dog at your residence; you must be over 25 years of age; and you must pass a home inspection before the adoption can be completed.
As an added bonus, when you adopt a pit bull through BACS, you can attend Bad Rap's Pit Ed training classes for FREE (normal fee $100). These classes are extremely popular and can have a 6 month waiting list. But, when you adopt a pittie from us, you get to skip the wait and start attending classes right away. You won't find this incredible opportunity through any other shelter. You can read more about Bad Rap's Pit Ed on their website: http://badrap.org/
