Κεριά
Του μέλλοντος η μέρες στέκοντ' εμπροστά μας
σα μια σειρά κεράκια αναμένα --
χρυσά, ζεστά, και ζωηρά κεράκια.
Η περασμένες μέρες πίσω μένουν,
μια θλιβερή γραμμή κεριών σβυσμένων·
τα πιο κοντά βγάζουν καπνόν ακόμη,
κρύα κεριά, λυωμένα, και κυρτά.
Δεν θέλω να τα βλέπω· με λυπεί η μορφή των,
και με λυπεί το πρώτο φως των να θυμούμαι.
Εμπρός κυττάζω τ' αναμμένα μου κεριά.
Δεν θέλω να γυρίσω να μη διώ και φρίξω
τι γρήγορα που η σκοτεινή γραμμή μακραίνει,
τι γρήγορα που τα σβηστά κεριά πληθαίνουν.

Candles
The days of our future stand in front of us
like a row of little lit candles --
golden, warm, and lively little candles.
The days past remain behind us,
a mournful line of extinguished candles;
the ones nearest are still smoking,
cold candles, melted, and bent.
I do not want to look at them; their form saddens me,
and it saddens me to recall their first light.
I look ahead at my lit candles.
I do not want to turn back, lest I see and shudder
at how fast the dark line lengthens,
at how fast the extinguished candles multiply.

των Ρ-Η.-Σ. Αποστολίδη.(όχι όμως και το ποίημα ατόφιο καθ 'οσον στην έκδοση υπάρχουν μικρές διαφορές)
Update (11 05 2023): Ποιήματα του παγκόσμιου ποιητή μας, τα οποία προσπάθησα να απαγγείλω και να οπτικοποιήσω με τον δέοντα σεβασμό. Στα βίντεο αυτά αναγράφεται το όνομα Γιώργος Βουτσάς που είναι και το επίθετο του πατέρα μου. Το επίθετο όμως του παππού μου Ηλία από την Αγία Παρασκευή του Τσεσμέ ήταν Βουτσής. Τιμώντας την μνήμη του αποφάσισα, εδώ και μια διετία, να υπογράφω ως Γιώργος Βουτσής. Αυτά προς αποφυγή παρανοήσεων.
