🐼 Why were these 3D-printed pandas breaking?
In this video, we test a little-known feature of Bambu Studio to improve the strength of multi-color 3D prints.
⚙️ The problem arises when a piece has two separate colors, such as black and white.
📍 Often, the software doesn't blend these colors into a single strong piece, but instead divides them into distinct zones. The printer then ends up placing one color next to the other, creating a weak line right at the seam between the colors.
⚙️ The magic feature is called:
Use Beam Interlocking

📍 This option prevents the colors from joining in a straight line, instead printing them interlocked, like the teeth of a zipper. This way, one color overlaps the other, and the seam is much stronger from the inside.

Global → Others → Advanced → Use Beam Interlocking

🧠 What is it for?
Reinforces bonds between colors.
Improves multi-colored pieces.
Prevents a piece from breaking right at the material boundary.
Creates an internal bond more like an interlocking joint.
Makes multi-colored 3D prints stronger.
🔥 In this case, we used it for our 3D-printed panda set because the first samples broke right at the color bond. After activating Beam Interlocking, the piece became much stronger.
⚠️ Important:
This does not replace good print settings. Strength also depends on the material, temperature, layer orientation, piece design, and the amount of contact between colors. But for certain multi-colored pieces, this feature can completely change the result.
