The spotlight ain’t treating me well.
It gets up in my face, I can’t see nothing else.
I start losing my place, it keeps ringing my bell

Been getting worse every night,
like a big puff of smoke slowly covering my eyes,
screwin’ up my head, got me squintin’ all the time.
Now people I know are getting hard to recognize and I’m scared.

Goin’ blind. Hardly anybody knows it;
my wife and my kids,
some family and friends,
the ones that drive me ‘round
and hold the lamps that guide me in.

I’m too young for feeling so elderly.
Will somebody please come and read this to me?
Going everywhere in the passenger seat.
Tell me. “What kind of man can’t get his kids from point A to B?”
Goin’ blind - like I might not see you later.
Goin’ blind - askin’ everyone for favors.
I don’t know where I’d be without my family and friends;
the ones that drive me ‘round and hold the lamps that guide me in.
They’ve been trying to keep me optimistic.
“Surely, the doctor’s gonna fix it.
Even if they don’t, hey, it’ll be alright.”
But I’ve had trouble with the bright side.
Goin’ blind. I’ve had to really think it over.
Goin’ blind. Oh, its nearly scared me sober.
I’ve been leaning on the Lord, my family and friends;
the ones that drive me ‘round and hold the lamps that guide me in.
Goin’ blind brought the heart back into focus.
