Welcome to California's San Joaquin Valley, the town of Exeter and the neighboring community of Tooleville where residents have been living with bottled water and contaminated wells since the 1970s.

The Great Divide is a Davide-and-Goliath story about race and poverty. Larger towns vs. smaller hamlets; rich vs. poor; white vs. brown. Every Californian has the right to clean drinking water, and Tooleville is ground zero for the great water divide.

Produced by Casey Beck, Mary Cardaras, and Susan White in association with the Investigative Reporting Workshop. Funded in part by California State University and the Giles W. & Elise G. Mead Foundation.
