In this video, I demonstrate how to configure Cisco Smart Licensing Using Policy (SLP) on a Cisco IOS XE 17.x device using direct communication with Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM).

The device already has Smart Licensing Using Policy enabled and is initially associated with the Default Virtual Account. I show how to establish trust using a token generated from a different Virtual Account, synchronize license usage, and verify successful communication with CSSM.

This walkthrough is based on guidance provided by Cisco TAC. In my environment, I did not need to configure an HTTP proxy, but I did need to ensure HTTP communication used the management VRF, which was the key difference from the standard procedure.

Topics covered:

Verify connectivity to Cisco Smart Licensing servers
Configure Smart Transport
Generate a Smart Licensing token in Cisco Smart Software Manager
Establish trust using `license smart trust idtoken`
Verify trust status and usage reporting
Reassign the device to the desired Virtual Account
Troubleshoot management VRF connectivity
